Quarterly public meetings are held each year and offer women and their families a forum to express their issues and concerns regarding maternity services in their area.
- initiation of discussions with the Coombe Womens Hospital on setting up a consumer group - initiation of discussions with the National Maternity Hospital on setting up a consumer group - develop generic service user satisfaction survey to capture feedback of user experiences of maternity care (min 6 weeks postnatal) - AIMS awareness campaign to include information leaflet distribution drive in health centres, pharmacies, GP surgeries, women's health clinics ,pre/post natal yoga /massage classes and parent and toddler groups. Ongoing activities include: - representation on NMH Baby Friendly Implementation group - quarterly public meetings involving updates, open discussion and goal setting Recent events: - birth trauma healing workshop - presentation on "What women want" to students of midwifery, Trinity College Dublin - fundraising in Dublins Mini Marathon. Following their AGM, The Home Birth Association will be hosting a screening of Ricki Lake's acclaimed documentary 'The Business of Being Born'. This viewing is open to everyone, HBA members or not. Venue: The Teacher's Club, Parnell Sq When: 6th Sept, 4pm. Cost: Members: €8 / Non members: €10
WELCOMING OURSELVES BACK HOME Drumcondra, Saturday, May 10th This workshop provided an opportunity to safely explore birth trauma and begin to find ways of healing and integrating it. The focus was on:- Resources Mindfulness The Process of Grieving Self Calming Strategies Small Group Work Tapas Acupressure Technique (a form of gentle healing which works with the energy body) THE FACILITATORS Anne Gill is a psychotherapist who also runs HypnoBirthing Antenatal classes. She is the mother of three grown daughters and a grandmother. Anne has worked in many different ways over the years at healing her own traumatic birth, and did trainings in craniosacral work and prenatal and birth therapy. She has also trained in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for Trauma Recovery which is a form of body based psychotherapy and Tapas Acupressure Technique. Tricia McDonnell is a psychotherapist, group facilitator, trainer and mediator. She has been working in the caring profession for thirty years. Tricia is also a mother and has experienced trauma giving birth. Monday June 2nd 2008 AIMS Ireland took part in the 2008 Women's Mini Marathon on the June Bank Holiday Monday.
